Google Buzz Replaced By Google+

Google Buzz Replaced By Google+

Google has announced that it will put its social networking service and controversial Google Buzz to eternal sleep. A faux pas by Google, Buzz wasn’t received well by people in social circles and although Google thought it would be a good alternative to Facebook and MySpace, the 1-1/2-year-old service couldn’t achieve anything close to what it was meant to. The poor attempt by Google will now go under the axe of the search engine major for resting in eternity.

Google Buzz along with other services including iGoogle, Jaiku and Google Code Search will be closed in the coming weeks announced Google Inc on its blog. Google has already shut down Aardvark in September 2011 and it looks like the search engine major is clearing the clutter to make way for something big and better in the coming months although there isn’t any official word about a new product or service from the Google.

Google Buzz though survived sometime because of serious hype build but soon the fizz was lost and the service was a lot criticized for the poor privacy settings (the service would add all to your Gmail without the user’s prior consent and knowledge) in the Buzz. This expose didn’t go quite well with the users. Although the service had received some overhauling treatment it was too late to get accepted by the users who by then ditched it for something better such as Facebook.

Google concedes that Buzz wasn’t a huge success and it had to apologize users for breaching privacy policies. The company’s Vice-President Bradley Horowitz was quoted writing, “We aspire to build great products that really change people’s lives, products they use two or three times a day. To succeed you need real focus and thought—thought about what you work on and, just as important, what you don’t work on. It’s why we recently decided to shut down some products, and turn others into features of existing products. We learned a lot from products like Buzz, and are putting that learning to work every day in our vision for products like Google Plus.”

Google continues to focus on its new hit Google Plus and direct its social networking efforts on the Plus. The new service which is about 100 days old has been gaining the interest of college goers and it already boasts of 40 million users. The company CEO exudes confidence that the Google Plus has a lot more to challenge the social networking site Facebook.

Buzz will now join 20 other products and services that were put to eternal sleep by the Google.
